How to generate clients consistently as a coach or consultant
The million-dollar question: How do I easily and consistently get clients as a coach or consultant?
I don’t know about you, but up until recently, the #1 thing I had in my mind was “How do I generate clients easily, while still having the time to do great work for the clients I already have”? I even created a survey on LinkedIn a while ago, and this was the #1 thing people wanted to hear about (from me or any other creator).
There are possibly a million ways, and we all need to find what works for us. But if you are providing a service for your clients (as a coach, consultant, or service provider), I can definitely tell you what it’s working for my clients and me.
The first part is to make sure to have a way to send traffic to your website, for example through LinkedIn
It goes a little like this 👇🏽 👇🏽
🔥 You connect with your target clients on your platform of choice daily, by sending them connection requests (I suggest adding a personal note). LinkedIn is a great source if you are a consultant or an executive or career coach because you can actually request connections with people that have the professional background you want them to have, something that is not easy to target through other platforms
🔥 Your connection checks out your optimized profile (topic for another day), and decides to accept your request. If you have the time, you say hi on a DM but NEVER EVER cold pitch them anything, in particular at the beginning. If you ever decide to do cold outreach in the future, you could maaaaaybe do that via email, after you have really researched if they are a good fit, but that is not actually necessary when you use this method. For now, just have a normal conversation like a normal human being.
🔥 You post interesting content that educates, inspires, or even entertains. And you interact with other people’s content. This not only gives you more visibility (people read what you write, but LinkedIn also has this way of saying “Mariela commented on XY person’s post” =VISIBILITY. Of course, this also needs to be authentic, and not only a “great post” comment. (Feeling overwhelmed by the thought of doing this daily? I actually set a timer for ONLY 30 minutes and that’s enough! The key is being consistent, and actually doing it daily)
🔥 Your target client follows you and is intrigued. They check out your profile again and find the link to your website.
The part professional branding and a well-thought-out website play in getting clients as a coach or consultant
Ok, Mariela, you would think. But why have a website then at all if you are using social media to attract clients? Good question. It’s actually part 2 of the strategy 👇🏽👇🏽
🔥 After connecting with your target clients through social, they check out your website, where you are SUPER CLEAR about what you do, exactly who you help, HOW you help them (aka your framework), display testimonials and case studies, maybe talk about your packages, and invite them to TAKE ACTION (aka Book a Call, which is a prominent button on your website’s menu).
🔥 They actually book a call, and then you get to talk to them personally and convert them into a paying client (or at least you get to know them for later when they are ready to work with you or recommend you to others they know that could be a great fit to work with you)
This is how I am getting one client every week as a brand and website strategist and consultant
How do I know? Because it’s what I am doing right now. For the longest time, I was only posting content and waiting for people to come to me, which was not really working. I have discovered that posting is only ONE part of the equation. You need to find and connect to people each and every day, interact with their content, and have a professional website so that when they check you out, you position yourself as the perfect solution to their problem. Sometimes they accept your request and book a call in a matter of hours (which happened to me in the last 2 weeks!). But sometimes it needs a little longer.
But how about other things like networking, coffee dates, podcast interviews, etc.?
And of course, you can do everything else you are still doing, like attending networking groups, coffee dates, podcast interviews, etc. Those will also yield a higher return if you have an optimized website with professional branding that speaks to your ideal client.
